HOW TO SPEND 4 DAYS IN ASTURIAS
Discover the secrets of Gijón
Gijón is one of Asturias' most beautiful cities and is a great place to start your getaway. The Cimadevilla neighbourhood has a unique charm: it's the old fishing neighbourhood and is found right on the sea. When you finish there, climb to the top of the Santa Catalina hill, where Chillida placed his beautiful "Elogio del Horizonte" sculpture. After, it’s time to tour the town’s sidrerías where you can enjoy some delicious cider, which is a traditional drink in this part of Spain. You can finish with a traditional Asturian meal in Casa Eladio, the Gijón restaurant you can't miss.
The Magic of Asturian Villages
Enjoy the variety of Asturias and head out of Gijón to check out charming towns. You'll find Lastres on many "prettiest villages in Spain" lists and there's a reason for that: this seaside village has a beautiful port, mansions and palaces with centuries of history. Cudillero offers another view of Asturias: a village full of colour in which its lookout points are must-visits. In addition, Cudillero's Playa del Silencio is spectacular with its cliffs and islets that guard the coast. Tazones has wonderful restaurants and a beautiful port, as well as lively streets and terraces.
Picos de Europa: nature in its purest form
We've already checked out both cities and countrysides: now it's time to discover the wonders of Asturias nature. The Picos de Europa Natural Park boasts the Covadonga lakes which are undeniably stunning. A bus leaves periodically from Cangas de Onis that will take you there; once you're close, you'll be fascinated. It's a clean, clear and intensely green landscape, accompanied by two lakes, Enol and Ercina, that sit just before your eyes. There are various trails near the lakes; pick one and enjoy the fresh air.
Spend One Day in Oviedo
You can't go to Asturias without checking out its capital. Oviedo is a very welcoming city. The city’s Cathedral boasts an impressive Gothic design that we encourage you to check out, as well as the Asturias Museum of Fine Arts. If you love heritage, Oviedo’s Asturian Pre-Romanesque style is spectacular, which you can see at Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo. Mercado El Fontán is perfect for finding a gastronomic souvenir and Campo de San Francisco is the city's park that has become emblematic. Take a nice stroll!
