There's no time to be bored in Gijón. Cimadevilla's neighbourhood is emblematic of the city: it's located next to the sea and was the fishing neighbourhood for a long time. Santa Catalina hill is a place that also deserves a visit, mainly to see the "Elogio del Horizonte" designed by Eduardo Chillida. If you still have time, you can tour cider bars or sidrerías like Casa Ataulfo, La Galana and Casa El Cartero, or have lunch at Casa Eladio, a favourite of locals. Its traditional Asturian menu is mouthwatering.

You'll find charming villages scattered throughout the region where nature, heritage, history and culture go hand in hand. Lastres is the perfect example. Its white houses, 18th century palaces and beautiful port will welcome you like a local. And Cudillero isn't far behind: this Asturian municipality is known for its lookout points, which are well worth the visit. When you finish, head down to Playa del Silencio and let the scenery win you over. And have you ever heard of Tazones? Part of Villaviciosa, the village has an historic district with colourful fishing houses and restaurants where you can sit down to an excellent meal.

If you love nature, here's a place you can't miss: Picos de Europe, host of the Covadonga lakes. Getting there is easy: take the bus from Cangas de Onís. The peace of the Picos de Europa can't be explained; you have to experience it. Its crystal clear lakes (Enol and Ercina) are surrounded by trails that will take you through the area. If its a cloudy day, hold off on this excursion: missing the views is a crime!

Visiting Oviedo means spending an incredible day in a bustling city. In the Asturian capital, you'll find cultural gems like the gothic Oviedo Cathedral and Mercado El Fontan that's been around for more than a century. There are also examples of the Asturian Pre-Romanesque style like Santa María del Naranco, which will blow you away. Nature lovers don't have to leave the city: Campo de San Francisco is the perfect park for a stroll. And if you want to take home a souvenir, visit Calle Uria, Oviedo’s shopping centre, which is full of stores and bars.

Asturias has the largest concentration of active tourism activities in northern Spain, and the second largest in the country. The region is a paradise for lovers of nature and outdoor pursuits. Make your way down the river Sella and the Villaviciosa estuary, go canyoning and caving, and hike the Ruta del Cares.
