HOW TO SPEND A WEEK IN ASTURIAS

Discover the secrets of Gijón

Start your trip with a day trip to Gijón, a city full of life. If there's one neighbourhood you must visit its Cimadevilla, the old fishing neighbourhood next to the sea that has a very special vibe. Then you can climb the Santa Catalina hill to listen to the waves next to the "Elogio del Horizonte," a sculpture by Chillida that has become emblematic of Gijón. Still want to see more? Check out Plaza Mayor and have lunch at Casa Eladio, a favourite of locals. Its traditional Asturian menu is mouthwatering.

The Magic of Asturian Villages: Lastres and Cudillero

If there's something Asturias is full of it's charming villages. Lastres is the perfect village to discover the beauty of the region; it's a seaside village where you can stroll around and enjoy its port and impressive mansions from the 18th century. Cudillero is another one you can't miss: it's full of colour! Strolling around its streets is enough of a plan, head to Plaza de la Marina and take a tour of the village’s lookout points. In Tazones you can’t miss the reenactment of the disembarkation of Charles V, which is a spectacular event. Then, head to the wonderful restaurants to try the delicious products caught in the Cantabrian Sea.

Picos de Europa: nature in its purest form

It's time to enjoy nature in all its glory. Covadonga's lakes are located in the middle of the Picos de Europa natural park and visiting them is a must-do if you're heading to Asturias. A bus leaves from Cangas de Onis to take you there and upon arrival, you'll be speechless. The intense green of the landscape is undeniably beautiful; around the two lakes (Enol and Ercina), you'll find various low-difficulty hikes. One piece of advice: if it's a cloudy day, leave the visit for another day. You don't want to miss the views!

Spend One Day in Oviedo

Asturias' capital is, without a doubt, a must-visit. This city will welcome you with open arms and can be explored in one day. Oviedo's Gothic Cathedral is a must-see, as well as Mercado El Fontán and sites like Monte del Naranco where you can marvel at the Asturian Pre-Romanesque style. The Museum of Fine Arts has one of the best public collections of art in Spain and Campo de San Francisco is the perfect park to take a stroll. This is just the beginning; come to Oviedo and discover something new at each step.

Cider House Tours

There's nothing more Asturian than drinking a fresh and well-poured cider. Cider is much more than a drink: it's culture and tradition. We'll take you to Gijón's best cider houses to have the complete experience. Start at Casa Ataulfo, a landmark with over 40 years of history and taste their rice and lobster, a true delicacy. Continue at La Galana in Plaza Mayor which has its own cider and then head to Casa El Cartero, which has won several awards for the best cider and offers an authentic atmosphere.

Dreamy Beaches

Asturias' beaches are spectacular. You can't miss Torimbia beach in the city of Llanes; large cliffs protect it and when you reach the sea, you'll see crystal clear waters. Cuevas del Mar also has beautiful rock formations; in Villaviciosa, there are a few beaches that will take our breath away: Ñora's with its golden sand and the Playa España, perfect for a relaxing day. Pair your beach day with a visit to the Restaurant Carlos de Tazones and enjoy the seaside atmosphere of their kitchen. Enjoy!
