WHAT TO DO DURING 4 DAYS IN MENORCA
A stroll through Mahón’s historic centre and port
A stroll through Mahón’s city centre is the best way to get to know the city and discover some of its hidden wonders. Walk through streets until you reach the Plaza del Príncipe and the Plaza de la Conquista where you’ll find:
- La Iglesia de Santa María. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch one of its year round concerts. It boasts a powerful organ that sounds amazing.
- El Mercado de Pescados. In addition to functioning as a classic market to buy goods, it has various places to try tapas and the most representative products of Menorca.
Going down the Costa de Ses Voltes, you’ll reach Puerto de Mahón, the second largest port in Europe. The boardwork connects the port to the city; stroll along it to enjoy a panoramic view of the Mediterranean.
Visita la Cala Galdana
Just 20 minutes by car from Ciutadella and 30 minutes from Mahón is Cala Galdana, a beach with clear water, perfect for spending the morning in the sun with family or friends. Cala Galdana is also a great place to practise water sports; you can rent kayaks or a paddleboard and visit the nearby Calas Macarella and Macarelleta. These are two calm coves with less action, visit them if you’re looking to relax.
Sunset and Dinner in Ciutadella
There’s nothing more beautiful than going to the Mirador del Pont d’en Gil to watch the sunset. It’s a natural rock arch that enters in the water; you can also swim around it and watch the incredible sunset. At night, go down to the Puerto de Ciutadella to have dinner at S’Amarador or El Balear. You’ll be able to enjoy seafood at an unbeatable location with sea views and the Mediterranean breeze.
Es Mercadal: Discover a Charming Village
El Mercadal is, without a doubt, one of Menorca’s prettiest cities. On Thursday evenings in summer, you’ll find the Mercado de Verano, a popular, artisanal fair with food that leaves neighbours and visitors alike pleased. And if you love a good view, you can head to the top of Monte Toro on bicycle, on foot or by car from Es Mercadal; if you’re lucky and it’s a clear day, you’ll be able to see Mallorca. In addition, just 20 minutes in the car and you’ll reach Cala Pregonda, a beach with thick, golden sand with a colourful landscape. Do you want more? Right next door you’ll find Binimel·là, with its red sand that offers more peace and quiet.
